Out of a Flood
How do we respond in a disaster?
Feature Length Documentary Film • Coming 2026
ABOUT THE FILM
In September 2024, Hurricane Helene brought catastrophic flooding to Western North Carolina's mountain communities—places 500 miles inland that aren’t prepared to face hurricanes.
When communications failed and official relief was slow to reach isolated areas, something remarkable happened: neighbors became first responders, volunteers created supply chains, and entire communities reorganized around survival and mutual aid.
Filmed on location as events unfolded, Out of a Flood is the story, not of the trauma and chaos we expect in disaster zones, but of community resilience and care, showing first hand how catastrophe can reveal our hidden capacity for collective action.
